Clinical Services

Consultation

Consultation consists of 2-4 meetings to clarify your concerns and needs. During these appointments I will assess your current concerns and some background history in order to recommend a treatment that suits your needs. There are many different kinds of psychotherapy and styles of therapists. I will assist you in sorting though the options and offer my recommendations. If I do not offer the type of treatment that I recommend for your situation, I will provide you with the names of colleagues who do.

Individual Psychotherapy

I offer both short-term and longer-term psychotherapy. After our first few sessions I will discuss my impressions of what our work may include based on how I understand your goals and needs. I value collaboration in the psychotherapy relationship, and I encourage you to share your opinions and preferences about your experience with me. If you decide to continue with therapy with me, we will regularly discuss your goals for therapy and how to meet those goals.

Scheduling and Payment

Scheduling

I encourage you to contact me if you would like to talk about psychotherapy. The best way to reach me is by phone (617) 913-8065. Please leave me a message if I do not pick up your call. I generally respond to messages within 24-48 hours.

You may also send me an email (sera@seramiller.com) to discuss finding a time to talk.

Initial Phone Consultation (5–15 mins): We can briefly discuss your current concerns, goals, and hopes, as well as my style and approach to psychotherapy. I am also glad to discuss logistical and other details, such as my office location and directions, scheduling, and payment questions.

Payment & Insurance

I primarily offer fee-for-service psychotherapy, but am also an in-network provider for some insurance plans. In addition, you may have out-of-network benefits that would cover a percentage of my fee.

If you'd like to find out whether your insurance company would reimburse you for the cost of psychotherapy with me, I encourage you to contact them directly.

Questions to ask your insurance company:

  • Is Dr. Miller an in-network provider for me?
  • Do I have out-of-network benefits to see a licensed psychologist?
  • If so, what percentage do you cover?
  • What is the deductible, and how much of the deductible have I met?
  • What is my co-pay for a session if I see an out-of-network provider?
  • How many sessions are covered, and in what time period?
  • How do I access the form(s) needed to submit a request for reimbursement?
